How to convert a PSD to PNG or JPG

Open the editor and drag your .psd file onto the page (or use File › Open…).
Optional: hide layers you don't want with their eye icons, crop with the Crop tool (C), or change the size with Image › Image Size….
Choose File › Export As… (Shift+Ctrl+S, ⇧+⌘+S on a Mac).
Pick PNG, JPG or WebP, set the quality for JPG and WebP, and click OK. The image downloads with the same name as the PSD.

PNG, JPG or WebP?

The exported image is the merged result of all visible layers, including masks, layer styles and adjustment layers, just as it looks on screen. Under File › Export you can also save as PDF, layered SVG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, TGA or a multi-size ICO icon.

Layer comps: record versions of the design in Window › Layer Comps, then use File › Export › Layer Comps to Files… to download one PNG per comp.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting a PSD to PNG lose quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so the exported image matches what you see in the editor pixel for pixel. JPG and WebP are compressed; the Quality setting (default 92%) controls the trade-off between size and quality.

How do I keep a transparent background?

Export as PNG or WebP, which both keep transparency. Hide any background layer first. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.

Can I convert many PSD files at once?

Yes. File › Automate › Batch runs a recorded action on a set of files you choose and downloads each result as a PNG or JPG.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens in your browser on your own device, so your PSD files are never uploaded.
